When you are speaking English the words you stress can change the underlying meaning a sentence. Even simple sentences can have many levels of meaning based on the word you stress. This feature provides examples and an exercise to help you improve your pronunciation through correct word stress.

Thnak you very much for your website. I really appreciate all the tests and helpful lessons. I use your website all the time when I am tutoring a Korean student in English. However, invariably I find errors (a word missed, the wrong ending to a word) when my student is taking the tests. I was wondering if you could pay closer attention to the editing process. Several times I have had to say to my student “I’m sorry, that’s an error/typo.” I just wanted you to be aware of this one flaw on your wonderful teaching tool. Thank you.

I think it all depends on how you want to use English. If you are interested in using English to speak with friends who use idioms, then, yes, learning idioms is advisable. If you are learning English for business purposes, then maybe it’s not a good use of your study time.

Your website is great, however I have a comment on stressed words.

I speak English and 4 other European languages and the changes in meaning based on stress are exactly the same in all these languages. So this is not a topic that needs to be covered with English Language learners.

Thank you so much for such a useful site! I´m writing from Bariloche, Argentina. I find the quizzes very interesting and challenging, and, to my point of view, the best way to face up to my mistakes. Sometimes there are mistakes when you try to check the correct answers, but it doesn´t matter, it keeps you alert. Best wishes

I am glad I stumbled into this website. The material is great and far exceeds my expectation for a fee learning tool website. Exercises are great, especially when they give you the right answer after doing the exercises. I only have one problem and that is I can not find something I covered in the past and would like to go to that subject and review that one more time. I wish there was an index of subject matters covered or something that we could trace the material.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO HAVE A GOOD ENGLISH DICTIONARY LIKE WEBSTER COLLEGIATE TO CONSULT THE RIGHT PRONUNCIATION.MANY OTHERS DICTIONARIES ARE VERY HELPFUL WHEN THE INTERNATIONAL PHONETIC ALPHABET IS
USED.
