Separable or Inseparable? Phrasal Verb Tips

By November 19, 2012

Follow me on:

Phrasal verbs are verbs using a main verb followed by one word or a short phrase. Phrasal verbs can be separable or inseparable. For example:

She looked after her friend's cat while she was on vacation.

The phrasal verb 'look after' is an inseparable phrasal verb and must stay together. Here's an example of a separable phrasal verb:

Tom put his children through college.

As you can see, the phrasal verb 'put through' separates. Learn the rules of phrasal verbs and some tips to learning and using phrasal verbs with these resources.
