Confusing Tenses

By April 23, 2013

Follow me on:

Some tenses are more easily confused than others. For example, which sentence is correct?

I have played / have been working since three o'clock.

The correct answer is: I have been working since three o'clock. We use the present perfect continuous to express how long the current activity has been in progress. Here are some quizzes to try to check your understanding of tenses that are easily confused:

Past Simple or Present Perfect?
Present Simple or Present Continuous?
Will or Going to?
Present Perfect or Present Perfect Continuous?
