Translate and Learn as You Read - Readlang

By October 10, 2013

Follow me on:

I'd like to recommend a site you can use to read things online that allows you to translate words and phrases into your own language as you read. The site is called Readlang and I've already used it in a few classes which found the site really useful. You can import articles from anywhere on the web with a Chrome extension. Readlang also keeps track of the words you have translated while reading and provides flashcards and the correct context to help you review and learn new vocabulary.

The suggestion to translate the English text into the native language of the learner needs extra explanation. Based on my experience in teaching English to Indonesian-background learners proved otherwise. I got extra problems through translation exercises, but the learners found the comprehension questions in the form of multiple choice understandable. And that’s the current approach to the teaching of English as the second language in Indonesia. Thanks.

This is a great tool for foreign students being that although the might know the English language, information in they’re own speaking language comes closer to the heart.
