Definition: not have enough money to do something at that moment; surprised by a lack of financial funds

Explanation: Used when someone unexpectedly does not have enough money to do something, often used in embarrassing situations.

Examples: We went to lunch and I was caught short and had to ask Tom to pay the bill. - I'm afraid I'm caught short. Could you lend me a few dollars?
