Learning the Basics the Easy Way

No matter what culture you or your pupils come from, singing is a great way to introduce, improve and strengthen language skills. This is true for young people and adults, however, young people probably are the most willing to join in the fun and sing along.

This feature contains the texts to a number of young learner's songs focusing on building various basic language skills. While these songs may be used for pre-schoolers in a native English speaking environment, they are very useful for helping older students learn English as their second language.

Let's begin with one of the basics that you most certainly know: The ABC Song.

Most young people learn their ABCs with the help of a popular song - The ABC Song. This song has the same melody as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". Click on the audio symbol to hear the song twice. Just listen the first time, and then try to sing along with the song when it repeats. Sing this song often, and you will learn your ABCs quickly, too!
