Use 'while' and 'as' to express actions that happen at the same moment in time:

She was preparing for the exam while / as I was watching TV.

Use 'during' to express the same idea, but with a noun.

He helped her with the homework during dinner.

Knowing your time expressions will help you accurately express actions that occur in the past, present or future.
