Future Tense

There are a number of forms used for speaking about the future in English. You probably have studied the various future tenses, however, there are also other phrases used when speaking about the future. Here are some of the most common:

want infinitive

Example: I want to study languages at university.

would like infinitive

Example: She'd like to visit Rome someday.

hope to / I'm hoping infinitive

Example: I'm hoping to get a new job soon. OR I hope to get a new job soon.

plan to / I'm planning infinitive

Example: She plans to fly around the world next year. OR She is planning to fly around the world next year.

plan on / I'm planning 'ing'

Example: They plan on buying a new house soon. OR They're planning on buying a new house soon.

look forward to / be looking forward to 'ing'

Example: She is looking forward to enjoying her holidays. OR She looks forward to enjoying her holidays.

intend infinitive

Example: They intend to rent a car in Ireland.

might base form of verb

Example: I might try to find a new job.
